Lyft Reveals Sexual Assault Data: 4,158 Incidents, Including 360 Reports of Rape, Over Three-Year Period

Lyft, the ride-hailing company, has finally released its inaugural safety report, sharing details of 4,158 reported incidents of sexual assault that occurred on its platform between 2017 and 2019. The disclosure comes after more than three years since both Lyft and its competitor, Uber, initially committed to publishing safety reports in response to a CNN investigation on sexual assault and abuse incidents.

According to the released data, out of the reported sexual assault incidents, 360 cases were classified as rape. Additionally, Lyft reported 10 deaths resulting from physical assaults that took place during rides over the three-year period.

Lyft’s long-awaited safety report aims to provide transparency regarding the incidents of sexual assault that have occurred within its ride-hailing service. The company acknowledges the possibility of there being additional victims who have not yet come forward and encourages anyone with information or who believes they may have been a victim to contact the police online or through the non-emergency number 101, referencing “Operation Cooper.” In emergency situations, individuals are advised to dial 999.

By releasing this report, Lyft takes a step toward addressing the issue of safety on its platform and aims to foster an environment where passengers and drivers feel secure during their rides.
